Yousuf Karsh was one of the most famous lighted portrait photographers. He has taken pictures of so many celebrities and leaders; Winston Churchill, George Bernard Shaw, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Ernest Hemingway. He also photographed Harry S. Truman, John F. Kennedy, Fidel Castro and Andy Warhol. I find him most intriguing because he got the opportunity to capture the pure essence of each individual perfectly in his simple photographs. His recognizable photography is what drew my attention to choose him as my research artist. This is a link to his biography, and here are some photographs of the photographer himself!

Objects in a name

This was the hardest part of this assignment. I, for the life of me, could not figure out how to put all these photos into one canvas on pixlr. I read chapter 2, saw the instructions, and still could not get it to work. So in a time crunch, because my computer is about to die, and my charger is in a different town, I put my images on a document, screen shot them, and cropped the rest of the document, in order to upload it to this blog... not the right kind of photo editing, but photo editing in the same. These photos where taken from downtown Wabash. The S is from the Eagles theater, and the rest miscellaneous places.

This is the sunset from this past Saturday. I was lucky enough to witness it, and very lucky enough to capture it. This sunset is one of the best I have on photo, the light is so vibrant and glowing. When editing this, I felt the colors were already so unreal, that I changed the saturation, contrast, and brightness to really make the sunset pop. The colors do seem to be unreal, a part of the project that was to be avoided. However, I felt with the uniqueness of the original copy, it had to be done. I love the blue that popped out into the sky, and the defined clouds in the sky from the change in contrast.

This picture did not take much to edit. Mostly, the color was brightened, and a contrast was given. The original picture has beautiful natural lighting, so I more or less just emphasized the subjects inside the photo. You can see the difference in the color of Leo's coat, and the color of the scratch board. Still making a nice natural lighting.

Unit 1: cropping, and contrast

For this edited picture, I cropped around the excess of the picture, causing emphasis in the lights, and focus point of the chicken. In the original picture I like how the corner of the walls create depth in the picture, however, it leaves a lot of empty space in the photo, and takes away from the focus point. 

This original picture of the river was taken on a very foggy day. I love the original, but thought this to be a good one to edit. I started by adjusting the Contrast to 100. This brightened the river, and sharpened the tree branches.  then changed the brightness to about +5. This brightened the skye and darkened the lower outer corners of the picture.
